Strong Dancer Program

A strength and conditioning program designed to address the needs of dancers in order to improve performance, decrease risk of injury and empower them in a welcoming and safe environment.

Let’s start thinking of dancers like the athletes they are!
The Strong Dancer Program aims to educate and strengthen dancers through small group classes tailored to their specific needs.
Our 6-week programs integrate exercise physiology concepts with yoga, pilates and strength training to build strong, resilient dancers.
All dance styles welcome! Ages 10 and up.

– Educate dancers on proper movement quality and its importance.
– Get the dancers stronger to improve their work and recovery capacity.
– Help the dancers build body awareness.
– Balance patterns of overuse to prevent injuries.

Dance Medicine

Dance Injury Assessment:

A 60-minute appointment which includes a musculoskeletal screen and a physiotherapy assessment. Dancers will participate in a dance specific functional screen including dance technique and movement pattern analysis. The physiotherapy assessment examines neuromuscular control, balance, strength, flexibility and muscle imbalances. Dancers with a history of injury may also undergo special orthopedic tests to assess the integrity and recovery of the injured tissues. The assessment will be followed by a discussion regarding findings and recommendation of appropriate treatment and exercises.

Pointe Readiness Assessment:
A 60-minute appointment that includes a musculoskeletal screen, a physical exam and suggestions for improvement based on any physical limitations. Evidence-guided and measurable tests are utilized to help determine the dancer’s readiness for pointe work. Pre-pointe assessments also include a discussion regarding assessment findings, professional recommendation related to pointe readiness and exercises to help reduce and prevent injuries.
